Treating Corneal Ulcers with Honey

In the December issue of the Journal of the American Apitherapy Society, Dr. Mamdouh AbulRhman, professor of pediatrics on the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University in Egypt describes treating a corneal ulcer with topical honey. The patient had suffered from the ulcer, apparently caused by infection, for seven months. The ulcer failed to improve through the use of antibiotics, antiviral agents and corticosteroids.

Raw honey was applied twice daily. The article contains a series of photographs of the patient’s eye showing a marked improvement in his condition.
