Integrated Apitherapy Effects on Multiple Sclerosis

【Introduction】Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a common disease in North America and Europe without effective medical treatment. Apitherapy is an effective treatment in Multiple Sclerosis patients reported in recent years. However, most MS patients missed their golden treatment periods because of allergic reactions after high dose of BVT treatments.
【Purpose】The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of integrated Apitherapy (Bee venom Treatment) on Multiple Sclerosis patient.
【Method】A 48-year-old female was suffering from blurred vision and weakness of limbs since 2000. Patient was admitted to Taiwan Chang-Hua Christian Hospital because of weakness of limbs and blurred visions. Patient developed shortness of breath and headache later. Because of lacking of improvement,she was transferred to National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) later. CT scan performed in NTUH revealed 13 pathological lesions were found in her brain. The diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis was made after the CT scanning and abnormal laboratory studies of serum and CSF. She was admitted to NTUH for medical treatments for two years. However, there was no obvious improvements after two years medical treatment in NTUH. She visited our Apitherapy clinic on September 5,2002. She was carried to our Apitherapy Clinic by her family members to receive Bee Venom Therapy (BVT) three times weekly. Blood examinations of serum Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgE) were performed regularly to monitor the dosages of Apitherapy. We adjust the BVT dose to maintain the serum IgG level above 1000 mg/dl during the whole BVT course. We lowered the BVT dose or stopped the BVT treatment if patient developed allergic reactions after high BVT dosing treatment. Totally 3098 bees venom were used in four months of BVT treatments.
【Result】After received four months of BVT treatment, she started walking on her own on January 15,203. The blurred visions, weakness of limbs and shortness of breath were improved.
【Discussion】Multiple Sclerosis is a common disease in North America and Europe. There was no effective medical treatment up to present time. Apitherapy was reported to be effective in early phase of Multiple Sclerosis patients. However, most Multiple Sclerosis patients stopped BVT treatment because of developed allergic reactions after high dose of BVT. However, we shall miss the golden treatment periods if we stopped the BVT too long. And in North America and Europe, family members will care about the allergic reactions after BVT. Laboratory examinations of serum Immulogublins regularly provide a therapy guide lines in adjusting the dosing of BVT. The combinations of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) during BVT will decrease the risks of allergic reactions and enhance the effects of BVT. High proteins diets may enhance the serum levels of IgG. And avoiding seafood may decrease the IgE level and decrease the risk of allergic reactions.
【Conclusion】Integrated Apitherapy monitoring with Immunoglobins (IgG, IgE) during the whole course of Apitherapy can increase the effect of bee venom treatment.

【前言】多发性硬化症(MS)为北美及欧洲常见之疾病,唯目前仍有效疗法。近年求,很多医学报告蜂针 疗法对多发性硬化症有疗效。但是很多M.S.病人愿接受高剂量的蜂针疗法后过敏,而中止B.V.T,固搞错 失治疗M.S.的黄金时期。
【方法】病者庄XX,48 岁主妇,2000 年开始出现视力减退,失去四肢活动能力。病者首先住入台湾彰化 基督教医院。并出现呼吸急促及头痛等症状。由于无明显疗效,病者转院到台北市的国立台湾大学附设医院 继续治疗.计算机断层扫描(CT scan)检查发现大脑有13 个病灶。血液及CS 血液检查均符合多发性硬化症之 诊断。固此病者继续台大医院之治疗。但在台大医院治疗两年后,病者并无明显的病程进步。因此病者于2002 年9 月5 日到访本蜂疗诊所。那时候,病者是由家属背着来本诊所就医。她每周回诊三次,接受蜂针治疗。病者定期接受抽血检查免疫球蛋白（IgE、IgG）检验以调整蜂针之剂量。我们在蜂针疗法全程调整IgG 指 数在1000mg/dl 以上。若病者出现过敏现象,我们会降低BVT 剂量,或暂停BVT。病者在四个月内会全部接 受了3098 只蜂针治疗。
【结果】经过四个月蜂针治疗后,病者于2003 年1 月15 日后能自行走路。视力减退,呼吸急促及四肢 无力均有明显改善。
【讨论】多发性硬化症(M.S.)为欧美常见之疾病,但到目前为止现代医学并无有疗法。据近年医学报 告,蜂针疗法对早期的M.S.有疗效。但很多病者在接受高剂量蜂针疗法后,出现过敏现象,以至于蜂疗被迫 中止,因而错失治疗M.S.的黄金时期。但在欧美国家,病者家属对蜂针之过敏现象十分关注。因此,蜂针期 间,定期抽血,实验室检查免疫球蛋白指数,以调整蜂针剂量,可作为蜂疗的剂量指导原则。另外,蜂针期间, 结合现代医学营养疗法(MNT),可增强蜂针疗法之疗效及降低过敏反应。高蛋白膳食疗法可提高血清IgG 之 指教。避免摄食海产食物可降低IgE 及减少蜂疗过敏反应。
