Honey for Hemorrhoids?

Honey Helped Get Rid of My Hemorrhoids
By Dr. Peter Gott, Erie Times-News (USA), 6/18/2008

Q I want to respond to your column regarding hemorrhoids and how hard it is to get rid of them. I would like to tell you about the experience of my husband's grandmother.

During one of her physical exams, her doctor informed her that she had hemorrhoids and would need surgery to repair them.

She refused the surgery because she had read an article in Prevention Magazine claiming honey would help heal hemorrhoids.

She immediately put honey on everything she could (toast, hot cereal, etc.), and, by the time she saw the doctor again, they were gone. The doctor noticed and commented on her finally deciding on having the surgery.

She said she didn't have the surgery, and if he looked more closely, he would notice the lack of scars. She told him about the honey and how it solved her problem. He was amazed.

A Honey for hemorrhoids is new to me. I am aware of honey's healing properties for wounds and burns; however, in these instances, it is applied topically.

Eating honey to heal hemorrhoids seems like a bit of a stretch, and, I would imagine it would be more effective (and messy) if it were applied topically. However, I can't argue with success.

If any of my readers have tried treating hemorrhoids with honey, please let me know. If the letters I receive show a positive result, I will write a follow-up...

I have just found your blog and would like to make a comment about honey on hemorrhoids. For quite a few months I have had recurring hemorrhoid discomfort. I have been using a cream recommended by a pharmacist with little or no improvement. I eat a lot of honey which I believe is good for my health, and have for years, but haven't noticed any reduction in the discomfort. About a fortnight ago, knowing of the claims that honey has healing properties, I decided to apply honey directly onto the hemorrhoids. Admittedly it was a bit messy and sticky but since the first application I have had almost no discomfort from the hemorrhoids. I haven't used the cream since I started with the honey and have only applied honey every 3 or 4 days. It's too early to say if the honey is the "cure" or not but I'm not complaining and I will keep using the honey until someone, or my hemorrhoids, proves otherwise.

I too recently began suffering from hemorrhoidal discomfort. I tried Preperation H with only very temporary relief. I knew honey was supposed to have healing properties, so I thought, "What do I have to lose?" I applied raw honey (which is thicker and less messy than processed honey)directly to the hemrrhoidal tissue. The relief was more complete and longer lasting than the PH. It's just been a few days. The hemorrhoid hasn't gone away, but seems to be healing. Who would have thought?!

After the birth of my son, my midwife told me to apply honey, to, down there. She said it's antibacterial and soothing. She was right! It was oddly soothing and not gross at all. I thought about this recently, after having trouble with bleeding hemorrhoids and tried it. It is quite soothing and seemed to help with the swelling too.

I found tremendous relief by eating honey on a regular basis. My hemorroids disappeared. If I forget to take my honey for a few weeks they do reappear. I am not bothered at all with them if I just remember to keep taking my honey!

For the last five years I have been suffering from hemorrhoids off and on due to my IBS diagnosis. I have tried every possible cream in the market, even a numbing shot, but none seem to work or if they did it was very short termed. Over the past five years my father had been insisting that I use honey to treat my hemorrhoids, but I never took his advice seriously until a few days ago where I was at the breaking point and figured why not. I highly recommend using honey for hemorrhoids, not only did I receive instant relief but it lasted longer than any medication I have tried in the past. On top of that the hemorrhoids appear to be shrinking.
If you suffer from IBS like I do and have constant pain in that region I would suggest using honey, you got nothing to lose.

Honey applied directly to the affected area works great for me! Have not tried eating more than usual to see about prevention, but I can swear by the topical application. I would reccommend it, but caution anyone buying honey for any reason to make sure it is, in fact 100% PURE honey (MANY honey vendors are now selling honey that is cut with corn syrup and other things, and honey-flavored, much as the maple syrup industry subbed maple-flavored corn syrup for maple syrup)and ONLY purchase 100% pure honey, preferably not from China, or other non-reliable sources.

Hi

My haemorrhoids started to disappear in the last week; the only change to my diet is discovering honey in tea. I drink lots of tea.

Putting two and two together I have just googled honey + haemorrhoids. This blog is one of many sites that appear to confirm my self healing diagnosis.

Just so you know I am not a yoghurt weaving, seed crunching, health nut. I just figured some others may wish to know and good luck if they benefit also from my experience.

I have internal hemorrhoids and I purchased Manuka honey to try to apply it topically as many of you have suggested. Can someone please help me understand how to insert the honey to treat internal Hems? I cant seem to get past applying it to the outside anus. That isn't enough to help me.

I recently purchased some 16+ UMF raw manuka honey form New Zealand. I have been suffering from a pretty bad case of internal/external hemorrhoids since I was about 13. I know this is an OLLLLLD blog, but by chance if anyone comes across this blog I will update soon to let you know whether or not the honey did anything.

I tried ice I tried creams even found another net post that said garlic is the best it worked to shrink the problem but still had pain. My friend told me to use manuka honey or normal honey to see what happened I was a bit sus on it of course as you would be but it seems to work. It has a great numbing effect. Who knew a bee with all its power could be responsible for relieving pain as well. Next time I get stung I know what I will do.

I am trying raw honey too and it is huge relief for me. No more burning or swelling. I will definitely keep up with this remedy.
