An in vitro Study on Antimicrobial Activity of Propolis from
Al-Baha Province of Saudi Arabia Against Some Antibiotic Resistance Human
Pathogens

Propolis is a resinous substance collected by worker
honeybees from various plant sources. The bees pack propolis on their hind
legs, carry it to their colony, and use it as a sterilant in the hive. It is
one of the oldest known medicines that are used even today in folk medicines.
Although numerous researchers have been reported the antimicrobial activity of
propolis from different countries and geographical regions but information
about Saudi Arabian Propolis are still limited.
In this study, antimicrobial effects of propolis samples on
Gram Negative Escherichia coli, Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus strain that
are multiresistant to antibiotics and on fungal human pathogen Candida albicans
were studied by using microbroth dilution Assay. Propolis extract were prepared
with 70% ethyl alcohol at concentration of 1%, 0.75%, 0.50%, 0.25 % and 0.10%
(v/v) in nutrient broth. Ethanol (70%) were used as a controls. At
concentrations of 0.25 % ,(minimum inhibitory concentration) propolis extracts
kill all of the microorganisms and 70 % alcohol has no effect on Pathogens.
In conclusion Saudi Arabian Propolis had a strong and dose
dependent activity against most of the human pathogen and the results detected
in this in vitro study provided evidence that propolis may be used as an antimicrobial
agent against many HUMAN pathogen microorganisms.

沙特阿拉伯阿尔巴哈省蜂胶对人类耐药性病原菌体外抗菌活性研究

蜂胶是西方蜜蜂工蜂采集于多种植物的树脂类物质。蜜蜂将蜂胶装在后肢上,带回蜂巢,将其作为蜂群的杀菌剂。蜂胶是至今仍在使用的最古老的民间医药之一。虽然关于不同国家和地区的蜂胶抗菌活性研究报道很多,但是沙特阿拉伯蜂胶抗菌活性却鲜有报道。本研究采用微量肉汤稀释法,研究蜂胶样品对抗多种抗生素的革兰氏阴性大肠杆菌和革兰氏阳性金黄色酿脓葡萄球菌菌株以及真菌性的人类病原菌白色念珠菌的抗菌活性。在营养液体培养基中加入70%乙醇的蜂胶提取液,使其浓度分别为0.10%、0.25%、
0.50%、0.75 % 和 1%(v/v),70%乙醇作为对照组。在最小抑菌浓度即0.25%蜂胶提取液时,即可杀死所有的微生物,而70%乙醇对病原菌无任何作用。因此,沙特阿拉伯蜂胶对大部分人类病原菌具有很强的抗菌活性而且具有剂量依赖性。这一体外研究得到的结果也表明蜂胶或许可以作为许多人类病原菌的抗菌剂。关键词:抗菌活性;沙特阿拉伯蜂胶;人类病原菌;微量肉汤稀释法
